چکیده

We introduce a new 3D tubular intensity model in conjunction with a model fitting scheme for accurate segmentation and quantification of small tubular structures in 3D vascular images. The tubular model is formulated based on principles of the image formation process. Compared to previous straight models, the new model allows to accurately represent curved tubular structures, to directly estimate the local curvature, as well as to more accurately estimate the parameters of tubular structures. We have successfully applied our approach to 3D synthetic images and 3D CTA vascular images.

Determination of Optimum Planar Imaging Parameters for Small Structures with Diameters Less Than the Resolution of the Gamma Camera

Introduction: The limited spatial resolution of the gamma camera hinders the absolute quantification of planar images of small structures. The imaged structures are affected by partial volume effects (PVEs), which can spread activity and lead to underestimation of the regional distribution.  The use of optimum planar parameters reduces the impact of the limited spatial resolution of the gamma c...

Model-Based Detection of Tubular Structures in 3D Images

Detection of tubular structures in 3D images is an important issue for vascular medical imaging. We present in this paper a new approach for centerline detection and reconstruction of 3D tubular structures. Several models of vessels are introduced for estimating the sensitivity of the image second order derivatives according to elliptical cross-section, to curvature of the axis, or to partial v...

Accurate Detection of 3D Tubular Tree Structures

Spatial resolution of Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) makes it a powerful tool for diagnosis and surgical planning. However, image interpretation and visualization tools are missing, and three-dimensional measurements are not usually accessible [6]. Flexible visualization of the whole vascular tree and precise quantification of phenomenons like carotid stenosis are applications of an autom...

Probabilistic Tracking and Model-Based Segmentation of 3D Tubular Structures

We introduce a new approach for tracking-based segmentation of 3D tubular structures. The approach is based on a novel combination of a 3D cylindrical intensity model and particle filter tracking. In comparison to earlier work we utilize a 3D intensity model as the measurement model of the particle filter, thus a more realistic 3D appearance model is used that directly represents the image inte...

Tubule segmentation of fluorescence microscopy images based on convolutional neural networks with inhomogeneity correction

Fluorescence microscopy has become a widely used tool for studying various biological structures of in vivo tissue or cells. However, quantitative analysis of these biological structures remains a challenge due to their complexity which is exacerbated by distortions caused by lens aberrations and light scattering. Moreover, manual quantification of such image volumes is an intractable and error...
